Mr. Prasert Praprom, 56, a construction supervisor at the Don Kaeo Municipality’s Engineering Department, Mae Rim District, Chiang Mai Province, was inspecting a drainage pipe under a road in the Huai Tung Tao project after a water leak caused a road cavity to collapse.
While inspecting the road, Mr. Prasert’s body collapsed.
Officials quickly removed Mr. Prasert’s body with a backhoe and a shovel. After approximately 20 minutes, Mr. Prasert was able to free his body from the ground before being rushed to Nakhon Ping Hospital.
This morning, Mr. Prasert died. The landslide resulted in severed intestines, fractured bones, ribs puncturing his lungs, and spleen.

The family will be leaving the body at the hospital for two days before bringing it to Ban Don Kaeo, Village No. 2, for funeral rites. The village has another corpse, and the body cannot be removed.
Mr. Kriangkrai Chanakham, Director of the Engineering Department of Don Kaeo Municipality, The supervisor of the deceased, Uncle Prasert, recounted yesterday’s incident. He and Mr. Prasert left the municipality to work at the site. He was at the site and went down to the scene with Uncle Prasert the first time to determine the cause and repair the road and fill it with soil. However, on the second time, Uncle Prasert went down to investigate the true cause. He saw water leaking from a pipe, causing the road to collapse and become hollow. He suggested that sandbags be stuffed into the pipe and sealed with grout to prevent water from seeping out. He had already instructed his staff to prepare all necessary supplies and plan to complete the task today to alleviate the suffering of the villagers. However, in a split second, at approximately 11:52 a.m. (September 10th), the ground collapsed, as seen in the video clip.
After the incident, he rushed to help Uncle Prasert with all his might and provided first aid. It took about 20 minutes before he was rescued.
As he was being brought up, everyone kept calling his name, and he was conscious. They responded and even took him to the hospital and monitored his condition. It was later learned that Uncle Prasert had passed away at 2:00 AM today.
This tragic accident has left all his coworkers deeply saddened and disheartened. He had worked as a construction foreman for the Don Kaeo Municipality Engineering Department for over 15 years. He was a hard-working, dedicated worker, and beloved by his coworkers.
Mr. Plakorn Kanthawang, Mayor of Don Kaeo Municipality, stated that

after the accident, relevant officials were called in to inquire about the circumstances of the accident. Don Kaeo Municipality received a request from residents of Huai Tung Tao Village to repair the road in question after it was affected by Typhoon Tajiki, which caused erosion and made travel difficult. They ordered the engineering department to repair the road and requested machinery from the Chiang Mai Provincial Administrative Organization. However, they did not expect such a tragic accident to occur. Don Kaeo Municipality will provide full support to the family of the deceased, including funeral funds and a matching fund. However, after the accident, all officials have been instructed to be extra cautious when repairing roads and even during flooding.
As for the funeral of Mr. Prasert Praprom, the deceased, the family will take the body from Nakhon Ping Hospital on Saturday to perform funeral rites at his home in Don Kaeo Village, Village No. 2, Don Kaeo Subdistrict, Mae Rim District.
